Seeing eye to eye

Beauty is not only down to the eye of the beholder but can be down to the eyes of the holder too. When you look at someone you normally tend to notice either their hair or eyes first (if viewed from the front). So, to grab the attention of others and make that special effort to highlight your eyes as it really can make all the difference, and it is also really easy to achieve with a little care.

Agim Salon are going to give you a quick guide on how to achieve improved eye contact.

  1. The first step has to be preparation, without this key element you are unlikely to achieve the end result. Use a concealer to hide any dark patches under the eyes by placing three small blobs just below each eye and pat them gently, starting next to the bridge of the nose and work your way out.
  2. Once the concealer is applied it is time to add some eye base to your eye lids, this will ensure your chosen eye shadow remains in place for many hours. As before, this is an important step because of you do not “prime” your eye lids the eye shadow will probably create a greasy lines.
  3. Darker eye shadows can work very well as eye liners. Using a wet slanted brush, dip it in to the eye shadow and lines the eyes as close as possible to the upper eye lashes, starting from the corner next to the bridge of the nose and working outwards.
  4. Now apply eye liner on the bottom eye lids and as you want to avoid a prominent line you need to smudge the line with either your finger or a Q-tip.
  5. Time to apply some eye shadow. A three tone eye shadow effect can be highly effective, first apply a light eye shadow color of a similar shade to your eye lid and sweep across your upper eye lid only all the way to the bone in the eyebrow. Repeat with a slightly darker color, then finally the third tone which should be darker again then gently blend the colors. Of course if you only want two-tone you can miss out the third “sweep”.
  6. Now to brighten up the eyes with a subtle trick that is commonly used by make-up artists. Using the lightest eye shadow, press a little, with your finger, in to the inner corner of your eyes where the upper and lower eye lids meet.
  7. The penultimate step is to highlight the eyebrow. Using the same light shade of eye shadow, gently bad it with your finger on the eyebrow bone concentrating from the center to the outer part then blend.
  8. Nearly done! you need to curl your eye lashes to finish off your masterpiece. Even long eye lashes can be made to look more beautiful with an “eyelash curler”. You can warm the “curler” a little by using a hair dryer for a few seconds but make sure it is not too hot to use by touching it.
  9. All you need to do now is add some mascara. With the “wand” of the mascara brush, place it at the base of the eye lashes and gently move from side to side in an almost “wiggle” effect. Repeat the process a few more times then move to the lower eye lashes.

The foundation of a beautiful face

Years ago, when our parents were the “young generation”, foundation options were somewhat limited and most were creams that were available were thick and unmanageable. Nowadays of course, the choice has become considerably greater, which can lead to some confusion for the consumer. So, we at Agim Salon have created a short guide to foundation types to help guide you in the right direction.

Foundations are now available in many different types and while thick creams are still manufactured, they are typically more manageable. Other types of foundation available are liquids, cream to powder, mousse/whipped foundation, tinted moisturizers, minerals and concealers.

Liquid foundations are very popular, mainly down to the ease in which it can be applied very smoothly and is widely available, and by using a makeup sponge that is slightly moist enables you to improve the smoothness. Liquid foundation is excellent around the eyes, especially if you want to add a little more for better coverage and by using a small brush you will achieve better control of the application. These liquid foundations are available in waterproof (or smudge proof) and non-waterproof and your skin will determine which is best suited to you. The waterproof/smudge proof foundations typically contain oils and other ingredients that may create a reaction to skin, causing a little irritation, if you experience this or any other unexpected reaction of the skin then make the switch to a non-waterproof foundation and see if the results improve.

Another very popular foundation is the cream-to-powder variety, Agim Salon use the Fifth Element Liquid Powder Mineral foundation; which is “oil free” and the application is the same as other liquids but this will dry out, creating a “powder finish” that will last all day. What makes this option appealing is the easy application.

Mousse (or whipped) foundations are simply liquid foundation that has air “whipped” in, creating a smoother and lighter composition and are also popular as they can be applied thinly, in layers, giving you better control of the application. This type is especially ideal for ageing or dry skin, as it tends to apply smoothly and not filling any facial lines. It costs a little more due to the packaging and specialized processes in making it but it is worth that extra money.

Tinted moisturizer may be an excellent choice if you want to address a dry skin problem or correct an uneven skin tone without applying to the whole face. In addition to adding color, the tinted moisturizer will soften and protect the skin with the bonus that you do not need to apply a separate layer of foundation as it provides both applications in one.

A concealer is typically used for masking small blemishes that are visible or to cover dark patches or freckles etc. as it blends in well with the tone of the surrounding skin, providing a more uniform appearance in the color. A concealer can be used with or without foundation, is available in a large range of shades, and use of this product is becoming increasing popular with men too.

The most recent innovation in the world of make-up is the mineral foundations, a make-up that’s good for the skin. Being perfect for use with sensitive skin or allergies, these foundations have become very popular. Widely advertised as a “soft focus” appearance, mineral make-ups have been compared with airbrushing as a flawless appearance is created .Apply with a big “puffy brush” and build layers or near invisible powder. Agim Salon offers the “Fifth Element” range of mineral foundation that you can build up coverage with little effort – providing a beautiful looking complexion, protection and treatment for your skin.

Agim Salon uses the “Fifth Element” range of mineral products which consists of Foundation, Liquid Powder SPF 15, Sheer Tint SPF 20, Gemstone Finishing Bronzer and Sheer Matte Bronzer. For more details, contact AgimSalon.com here

Step out of the light and in to the dark

At Agim Salon, we want to make sure that you are completely satisfied. Whether you are looking at changing your hair color in the store, or at home, we are interested in your satisfaction. Many other salons around are focused around their bottom line, i.e. money. At Agim Salon we do things differently to earn your patronism. In this article we are going to briefly touch on hair coloring, from light to dark.

The physical aspect of changing the color of your hair is not generally a problem; however Agim Salon would like to highlight some points that need careful consideration. Will the new color suit you? Will a new hair color compliment your skin tone? Or will you need to make additional changes with regards to the make-up and color of the clothes you currently wear?

Transformation of hair color is common place and with the modern day advancements in hair colorants and while the ability to undertake this change, some people remain cautious about such a transformation. Agim Salon will address some of the points you need to know if you are planning on “making the change” from light hair to dark hair.

Although changing from a light color to a dark color is far easier than changing from dark to light, Agim Salon suggests when making a drastic change such as this, it is best to not stray too much by keeping closer to the natural color of your hair, perhaps within a couple of tones, especially if you choose to make the transformation at home.

If you experience something of a dilemma when choosing which shade you would like, Agim Salon suggests it is best to “play safe” and be a little cautious. If you manage to reduce your selection to 2 or 3 shades then it is perhaps wise to choose the lightest as the color shown on the box might actually be a little darker. At least by adopting a cautious approach you keep the option to use the next darkest shade the next time. It may take several attempts to reach the exact look you are trying to achieve but it is better than the alternative of getting it horribly wrong by “going too dark”

Once you have applied the colorant, and it has dried of course, Agim Salon recommends you use a good quality conditioner to “seal it”, this will help to reduce fading that is common when you change hair color to darker shade. Fading happens quicker in the early stages but as you build up the color with more colorant, the fading will ease off. If your natural hair is very light you will almost certainly need to apply a gold colorant prior to applying your chosen shade. If you do not perform this initial small requirement you could find you hair turning in to an ash color that is not likely to be flattering.

If in doubt, ask questions at the store where you make a purchase or inquire at Agim salon here
