Soft Skin

Soft skin is such a wonderful thing, not only to look at but to touch and most people can keep their skin at least a little softer if they know how, so Agim Salon are going to tell you how you can have and keep skin that is softer. One of the essential factors to soft skin is hydration of the body so here are some very simple steps to follow.

  • Drink water regularly. Water does not just quench your thirst, it is vital for the body’s well-being. 80% of your body is water and if this level significantly drops the body suffers and becomes very noticeable on the skin.
  • Wash your skin with non-drying cleansers, ideally with added moisturizers and avoid soaps that are harsh to the skin.
  • Moisturize your whole body, not just your hands and face, immediately after a shower. You do not need to use expensive moisturizers although they do tend to last a little longer.
  • Eat foods that are fibrous, such as fruit and vegetables. With the vitamin intake from these you are not only helping your skin but your whole body.
  • Apply cleansers and moisturizers gently, rubbing it in gradually.

Dry and flaky skin obviously means you do not have soft skin so here is how to be free of this type of skin.

  • The best time to attempt to repair your skin is at night, so remove your make up (if you are wearing any).
  • Use a good non-foaming cleanser, oil or cream cleansers are recommended.
  • This step is perhaps the most important; exfoliate the skin so make sure you have a good quality exfoliating product to hand.
  • Now apply a moisturizer. You could use Olive Oil which can be very effective in the skin softening process.

It really is that simple but Agim Salon are not suggesting everyone will make their skin softer or less dry as it may depend on a range of other factors but in general terms if you repeat the above steps to either remove dry skin or make your skin softer you should notice a difference quite quickly.

Free Nail Varnish Remover!

Last week Agim Salon touched on the subject of nail art which of course can require the use of nail varnish. It is then perhaps prudent that we now tell you how to remove it without the use of a branded nail varnish remover!

First of all let’s state what nail varnish remover is. Basically it is an Acetone based fluid that will remove nail varnish or polish effortlessly. There are some removers that are based on Ethyl Acetate that do the same job. These products are readily available and highly popular for their convenience but if you have a little time to spare and an already stretched budget you have the option use other products that may already be in your home.

One particular product has a wide variety of uses in the home, such as making an excellent window cleaner, and that product in vinegar. A natural and acidic substance that is capable of breaking down the nail varnish, making it possible to simply wipe it off. All you need to do is add a little vinegar to a small bowl, add some orange, lime or lemon (all citric fruits) and mix together. Dip a cotton ball or cotton bud (the sort you use to remove wax from your ears) and wipe it on to your nails. It is not likely to be an instant removal as it takes a little time to break down the varnish and you may need to add a little more of the mixture to completely remove all traces. If after a few attempts a little stubborn varnish remains then a gentle scrape the nail which should remove the last little bits of varnish.

It really is that simple and arguable no harder than using a shop bought product.

Got time on your hands? Get painting!

Nail Art is nothing new but equally is not that commonplace either, normally reserved for party or special occasions, it is a branch of beauty that has not fully caught on by the masses. Agim Salon is going to have a look at nail art this week and if it is your scene or are thinking about trying it out, we will maybe offer a little inspiration.

Nail varnish and colorings have been available for decades so the act of applying a liquid to your finger or toe nails is probably nothing new but have you been adventurous enough to do more than simply apply an even coat of a single color?

From a basic two color pattern to the more exotic patterns, nail art opens the door to nearly endless possibilities with the colors available; the other essential ingredients are your imagination and a few basic tools.

Obviously you need to have a base coating on the nails, whichever color you want but ideally something that contrasts well with the color(s) you intend to use for the artwork.

To create relatively simple designs as shown above you can use a small dotting tool, needle, spotter brush or even a toothpick. Try to avoid overloading whichever tool you use as it is easier to build up than to remove everything and start over.

Creating more complex designs (as shown below) is certainly not for the novice but with patience and practice you could become quite proficient, perhaps good enough to offer your services to friends, family or anyone else with a passion for stunning looking nails

Even from this small sample of designs it is obvious there is no limit to what creations are possible.

If you do not have the time or patience to create exciting designs for yourself, or your nails are not long enough, you can still have incredible looking nails as acrylic nails or artificial nail extensions are readily available hosting a multitude of designs and colors.

Brown to blonde

A few weeks ago Agim Salon wrote about changing your hair color to a lighter shade, this week we Agim Salon is going to discuss the process to having blonde hair.

Changing your hair color to blonde from brown is quite common practice but if not done correctly, the results can be disastrous. Take the right steps and avoid taking shortcuts and you will achieve your goal. You do not need to be experienced to get it right, just careful. The process will mean bleaching your hair and if you are not comfortable with doing that, then perhaps blonde hair is not an option for you. It is also a time consuming process so please bare that in mind also.

What will you need?

  • Giant, old towel or button-up shirt
  • Conditioning mask
  • Alligator clips
  • Plastic mixing bowl
  • Cream developer
  • Applicator brush
  • Rat-tail comb
  • Powdered hair bleach (DO NOT use household bleach)
  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Disposable gloves
  • Blonde toner

Step by step process

  1. Two or three days before you decide to bleach your hair and finish the transformation you need to treat your hair using a conditioning mask.
  2. Divide hair in to 2 inch sections, securing each section with the Alligator clips.
  3. Mix the bleach and cream developer. Refer to the instructions on the bleach packaging for the required quantities. It is typically a 2:1 ratio of developer to bleach. Keep mixing until you have a smooth paste.
  4. Perform a strand test before applying the paste all over. Just take a section of hair and apply the paste and leave it for a few minutes.
  5. Lightly wipe the covered section (do not remove all the paste) to see how much effect the bleach has had. Repeat this stage every few minutes until you are happy with the shade and record the time it takes to reach this shade.
  6. Section by section, repeat the process in step 4 but this time, now you know how long it should take to achieve the color you want, you leave it until that time before washing all of the paste off. It is best to begin at the beck of the head as the color at the back is normally a little darker. Staring each section at the bottom end and work towards the roots but do not go all the way, leave the roots until last.
  7. Once you have added the paste to all section, including the roots and washed it all off at the right time, wash the hair in shampoo and conditioner.
  8. You should rest you hair for a day or so before adding any blonde toner. Follow the instructions on the packaging to complete this final process.

As always, if you have any question please contact Agim Salon, we will more than delighted to help you with any beauty and hair aspects you wish to discuss.

Time to get lippy

Lipsticks come in a massive range of types and colors and picking the best option can be a bit of a minefield so Agim Salon this week is going to introduce to the wide variety of types available, underlining the pro’s and con’s and hopefully helping you to choose the most suitable one.

Gloss – Still a favorite for small and thin lips as it acts as an enhancer, adding a lush shine and projects the illusion of greater depth. You can wear gloss lipstick in tandem with a traditional lipstick or on its own.

Matte – A flat and mat lipstick but provides a colorful shade that is attractive. It is ideal for ‘fuller’ lips and well as those that are smooth. Most young people can wear Matte lipstick but as you get a little older and your lips start to show signs of aging, you may need to consider changing.

Moisturizing – A suitable lipstick if your lips are dry as it keeps the lips soft. Containing glycerin, aloe and vitamin E ingredients they soften and nourish the lips and give a shiny, wet look but does not tend to last as long as other lipsticks.

Cream – This is another good option if you have small lips although does not give such a shiny appearance as other may do. To get a more shinny look you can simply add some lip gloss. The cream lipsticks normally contain more wax in comparison to other types and this may can shorten the life-span on the look and make your lips feel dry.

Satin & Sheer – These are good choices if you have dry lips as they contain oils. They keep lips moisturized and give a glossy appearance. The color of the ‘lippy’ inside the tube may be a little misleading though and once applied appears to be lighter so you may need re-apply several times to get the finish you want.

Frosted or Pearl – This will grab the attention and they make for an excellent choice for party nights. They give off a wonderful glistening and sparkling effect and project a look of confidence. It is perhaps best to apply a lip-gloss prior to applying the frosted or pearl finish to prevent the lips from drying out and cracking.

Long Wearing or Transfer Resistant – These are ideal for those of you have precious little time to frequently apply lipstick. Long-wearing will typically last 4-6 hours and the transfer resistant can last up to 8 hours, sometimes longer. However, if you are planning a meal where the food may contain high levels of grease or oil the life-span will be reduced quite considerably. Both of these can also make lips feel dry so moisturizer may be required to prevent that from happening.

Agim Salon stock a superb collection of lipsticks and other make ups by Fifth Element, feel free to contact us about any of these products or anything beauty related.

Next time Agim Salon discuss lipsticks, we will look at shades and some interesting facts about lipstick so make sure you keep returning as we provide more information on how to stay looking beautiful.
